A different kind of stay
Basecamp brings together varied tiny houses, shared spaces and places to work, close to the dunes and the sea. The site describes itself as a place to explore more sustainable ways of living and travelling. I’m drawn to that combination: a collection of small buildings becomes a place through what happens between them.
My work on site
I helped replace and reposition existing cabins and assemble new ones. I built and repaired terraces, painted and restored timber, and installed insulation and infrared heating. The work also included running cables and pipes, connecting and insulating water supplies, and carrying out ongoing repairs and improvements.
Between the buildings
This is the part of a project rarely seen in photographs of the finished site. A terrace, an access path or a well-made connection affects how people use a space every day. At Basecamp, I saw how an idea of hospitality takes physical shape through a series of practical tasks.
